Triple Bottom Line Assessment
Triple Bottom Line Assessment involves consideration of the Economic, Environmental and Social implications of a project. Economic assessment has long provided an underpinning for the evaluation of projects, with Benefit-Cost Ratios, Net Present Worth and Payback Period being conventional measures of economic worth. As more and more of the environmental externalities are being measured in economic terms, such environmental factors are now routinely included in evaluation studies. But social externalities are still often neglected. The role of TBL Assessment is to provide a reminder to include all three aspects in an evaluation.
Dr. Rita Seethaler has long experience with TBL and ran an online Masters unit in TBL for the Department of Civil Engineering at Monash University.
